INVERTEBRATE CONSERVATION FACT SHEET Pollinators in Natural Areas A Primer on Habitat Management

چکیده
system service. It is estimated that 60 to 80 percent of the world’s 250,000 flowering plants depend on animals—mostly insects—for pollination (Kremen et al. 2007). Eighty-seven of the world’s 124 most commonly cultivated crops are animal pollinated, and insectpollinated forage plants such as alfalfa and clover provide feed for livestock. Roughly thirtyfive percent of global crop production is dependent on pollination by animals (Klein et al. 2006). Pollinators also sustain wildland plant communities that provide food and shelter for myriad other wildlife. As one of the most widespread and important ecosystem services in terrestrial environments, plant pollination by insects is essential to human health, global food webs, and protection of biodiversity. Diversity and Conservation of Leaf Cutter Bees (Hymenoptera: megachilidae)
More than one-third of the world’s crops require pollination to set seeds and fruits Dias et al. [1]. It is likely that wild bee community is sufficient to provide services for multiple crops, including some that are not serviced by honeybees Kremen et al. [2]. Under several situations non-Apis bees are better pollinators than Apis species because of efficient tripping, fast foraging rate, long...
متن کاملExpansion of mass-flowering crops leads to transient pollinator dilution and reduced wild plant pollination
Agricultural land use results in direct biodiversity decline through loss of natural habitat, but may also cause indirect cross-habitat effects on conservation areas. We conducted three landscape-scale field studies on 67 sites to test the hypothesis that mass flowering of oilseed rape (Brassica napus) results in a transient dilution of bees in crop fields, and in increased competition between ...
متن کاملThe potential of electricity transmission corridors in forested areas as bumblebee habitat
Declines in pollinator abundance and diversity are not only a conservation issue, but also a threat to crop pollination. Maintained infrastructure corridors, such as those containing electricity transmission lines, are potentially important wild pollinator habitat. However, there is a lack of evidence comparing the abundance and diversity of wild pollinators in transmission corridors with other...
متن کاملUnderstanding Barriers to Participation in Cost-Share Programs For Pollinator Conservation by Wisconsin (USA) Cranberry Growers
The expansion of modern agriculture has led to the loss and fragmentation of natural habitat, resulting in a global decline in biodiversity, including bees. In many countries, farmers can participate in cost-share programs to create natural habitat on their farms for the conservation of beneficial insects, such as bees. Despite their dependence on bee pollinators and the demonstrated commitment...

The increasing rate of irreversible damages to natural habitats has reinforced the need for gathering biodiversity fundamental data to conservation. Priority setting is the most important step in protection programs. Solanaceae as the the one of important economic families of eudicots distributed throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific. Up to n...
